ABOUT REIKI CLASSES

Give Yourself the Gift of Reiki With A Class

We can all learn to do Reiki for self-care and wellness as well for treatment of others.  Reiki classes provide training in the practical, simple, and gentle system of Reiki.  A Reiki 1 class is truly empowering as it facilitates healing, health, and wellbeing on all levels:  physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual.  In a Reiki class you will learn the five elements that comprise the system of Reiki and how to incorporate these into your daily life.  These are reiki meditations, hands-on healing for self and others, reiki precepts, initiations, and symbols and mantras). Together, these 5 elements provide you with a tool, a practice, and a life path for personal development and healing.  Whether you are exploring Reiki for relief from troubling physical conditions or seeking a happier, more vitalized self, a Reiki 1 class is a comfortable and exciting place to begin your exploration.  Following a Reiki 1 class, students develop a personal practice using 5 elements of the system of Reiki for self-care and for treatment of others in managing stress, strengthening the immune system, assisting with chronic illness, creating mental clarity, and cultivating positive emotions.

There are three levels in the system of Reiki.  Some students who have completed a Reiki 1 class feel moved to continue with Reiki and choose to take a Reiki 2 class.  In a Reiki 2 class, specific Reiki symbols are taught which provide additional focus for the practitioner in his/her practice of Reiki.  Reiki 2 students who are considering practicing Reiki in the community are given skills in how to present Reiki to the public, how to conduct a client intake interview, and how to maintain a Reiki office with appropriate record-keeping and documentation.

Should you wish to continue on with your Reiki practice, Reiki Master Practitioner (Level 3a) and Reiki Master Teacher (Level 3b) are offered on a one-to-one basis, with a class designed specifically for you.

Reiki Class FAQ's

1.  What is covered in a Reiki 1 class?

A Reiki 1 classes clarifies what Reiki is and what Reiki is not, as well as how Reiki fits into Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), or Integrative Medicine. During a Reiki 1 class, students learn the Japanese origins and history of Reiki and about the role of a Reiki practitioner.  The Reiki Precepts/Concepts are discussed, as well as the ethical responsibilities of a Reiki practitioner.  A central part of the Reiki 1 class is learning and practicing the hand positions for Reiki self-treatment, and the hand positions for treatment of others.  Plenty of time is devoted to students practicing and giving Reiki treatments to one another. The Reiki initiation is a focal point of the Reiki 1 class, initiating students into the practice of Reiki.  Once you are initiated into Reiki 1, you can practice Reiki on yourself and others for the rest of your life.  Students will have the opportunity to continue their practice of Reiki on others through Brenner Reiki Healing's monthly Reiki Clinics.

2.  Initiations?  What is that all about?

Reiki is not taught in the same way as other spiritual practices or healing techniques are taught.  In fact, the initiation process is something that sets Reiki apart from other forms of healing work and from energy medicine.  The student's inner connection to Reiki is facilitated by the Reiki master-teacher during the initiation process.  Initiation is the process that connects the student to the practice of reiki; initiating inner transformations in the student, empowering him/her to practice Reiki on him/herself and others.  After the formal class is over, it is now up to the new Reiki practitioner to practice daily self-Reiki to continue the self-growth process as well as to apply reiki for daily health care to maintain the body's systems in balance.

3.  Sounds a little mysterious to me.  What will it feel like?

The initiation will be experienced differently by each student since each of us is unique.  Many people simply feel very relaxed and peaceful, while others may see colors or images, and some may experience some emotion.  No matter what we experience, the initiation has set in motion inner transformations. Now all the student needs to do is practice reiki on him/herself and on others.

4.  Can anyone learn to do Reiki?

Absolutely!  Anyone can initiated. The inititions really do not give the individual anything new.  It is an initiation that opens the door to what you already are capable of.   Once the formal class is over, the true practice of Reiki begins with the new practitioner doing daily self-Reiki.  This may be seen as analogous to having a regular meditation practice.

5.  Well, then, what about children?

Yes, children can be taught to do Reiki.  It is my feeling that most children over the age of 12 are capable of making the decision as to whether they want to become initiated to Reiki.  The policy of Brenner Reiki Healing is that one of the child's parents must already be initiated to Reiki so that true informed consent is involved, and that a parent accompanies the child to the class.  Children between the ages of 12 and 15 would be placed together in a children's class.  Children between the ages of 16 and 18 would be placed in an adult class, with written permission from the parent.

6.  Do I need to do anything special to prepare for my Reiki 1 class?

The most important thing you may want to do prior to the class is to consider why you want to become initiated to the practice of Reiki healing  and what you are expecting from this experience.  You may want to consider giving yourself the gift of some quiet time during the days before your Reiki class as you think about your wishes and intentions for learning Reiki.  I do not ask students to fast or avoid drinking caffeinated beverages, but you may choose those options if it feels right for you.  If you have never received a reiki treatment, I strongly urge you to do so prior to your Level 1 Reiki class.  Finally, I recommend you read the following book prior to your class:  Reiki: A Comprehensive Guide, by Pamela Miles.

7.  Frankly, I never have experienced Reiki, but I want to take the class.  Is that alright?

I suggest that if you have never received a Reiki treatment, that you do so before taking the class.  You can try Brenner Reiki Healing's monthly Reiki Clinic, where 1/2-hour treatments are offered at low cost ($10), or you may consider scheduling a full one-hour Reiki treatment with Brenner Reiki Healing at a special discounted rate for registered students.  Simply call Brenner Reiki Healing at 617-244-8856, or email eliseb@rcn.com to schedule an appointment prior to your Reiki class.

8.  Is there a textbook?

I request that students purchase and read the following book by Pamela Miles, Reiki: A Comprehensive Guide. The book is widely available in bookstores.  In addition, a comprehensive Reiki 1 course manual will be handed out to students at the class.

9.  What should I wear to my Reiki 1 class?  What should I bring with me?

Please wear comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes.  You may choose to remove your shoes for greater comfort.  It would be best to leave large, heavy jewelry at home.  I ask that you bring a notebook or journal, a pen, water, snacks, and lunch.  We will enjoy a lunch break together.  It is a long day and you want to be comfortable and enjoy each moment.
